A campaign featuring infographics and interactive guides aims to promote safer travel, protect natural resources, and facilitate planning for trips throughout the country

Practicing responsible tourism-from choosing formal services to caring for beaches, national parks, and other destinations-is the call from authorities this vacation season.

As part of this initiative, infographics with recommendations for visiting protected areas and enjoying the ocean safely will be released, according to the Costa Rican Tourism Institute.

In addition, the Interactive Tourist and Cultural Guides have been updated; they provide information on lodging, tours, cuisine, national parks, handicrafts, and attractions in different regions.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ENJOYING YOUR VACATION

. Book only tours and tourist services that operate in accordance with the law.

. Do not leave trash on beaches, in national parks, or at other natural destinations.

. Avoid taking sand, shells, rocks, or other items from the beaches.

. Respect wildlife and do not disturb their habitats.

. Conserve water and electricity during your stay, especially given the conditions associated with the El Niño phenomenon.

. Check the weather forecast before traveling to take the necessary precautions based on your destination.

“Costa Rica has a lot to offer-we can go on day trips, visit beaches just a few hours away, explore the free scenic overlooks in the Orosí Valley and the Ujarrás Ruins, and enjoy countless other options throughout the country. We invite you to be responsible tourists and leave no trace, respect nature, avoid pollution, and even conserve energy and water-especially as we face the arrival of the El Niño phenomenon,” said Rafael Soto, spokesperson for the ICT.

He also urged visitors to consult the Tourist and Cultural Guides and Mini-Guides, an interactive tool that compiles up-to-date and official tourism information on various destinations.

The guides include information on regions such as the Caribbean, Golfito-Jiménez, Northern and Southern Guanacaste, Monteverde, the Northern Plains, Osa, the Southern Pacific, Puntarenas, Sarapiquí, Turrialba, and the Zona de los Santos.

Mini-guides are also available with options for specific destinations such as Cahuita, Puerto Viejo, Tortuguero, La Fortuna, Liberia, Bijagua, Cañas, Bagaces, Coto Brus, and Corredores.
