Drone Attack on Wedding Travelers Kills Ten Civilians in Central Sudan
(MENAFN) A drone strike attributed to Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed 10 civilians in central Sudan as they were traveling to attend a wedding, according to reports released on Wednesday.
According to reports, the victims were traveling along Assadirat Road west of Omdurman when their civilian vehicle was struck by an RSF drone. The attack set the vehicle on fire, killing everyone inside. Among the dead were five women from the same family.
The Sudan Doctors Network described the incident as a "flagrant violation" of international humanitarian law, saying the strike was deliberately carried out using a guided drone and reflected the "systematic targeting of civilians" in the region.
The organization urged the United Nations and other international bodies to increase pressure on the RSF leadership over what it described as the deliberate targeting of civilians in breach of international law and humanitarian standards.
The RSF had not issued any immediate response to the allegations.
Sudan has remained in conflict since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the national army and the RSF over efforts to integrate the paramilitary force into the regular military. The war has since developed into one of the world's worst humanitarian emergencies, leaving tens of thousands dead and forcing nearly 13 million people from their homes.
