Bahrain Says It Foiled Iranian Aerial Attacks Amid Rising Regional Tensions

(MENAFN) Bahrain said its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed Iranian aerial threats over the country early Wednesday, according to reports.

Reports said the interceptions took place within Bahraini airspace, but authorities did not immediately disclose the type or number of missiles or drones involved.

Air raid sirens sounded across Bahrain for the third time within a matter of hours, while the Interior Ministry urged citizens and residents to remain calm and head to the nearest safe location.

Officials did not immediately report any casualties or property damage.

The incident followed a warning from Iran's military that all US bases across the region would become "legitimate targets" if Washington continued violating the existing ceasefire agreement.

Earlier, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had launched a missile and drone operation against 85 US military sites. According to reports, the listed targets included Salman Port, the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, and Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

The developments also came after the US military said it had carried out a new series of strikes against Iran, targeting more than 80 locations in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels traveling through the Strait of Hormuz.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation was conducted "in immediate response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz," according to reports.
