Israeli Forces Kill Three Palestinian Police Officers in Gaza Amid Ceasefire Tensions
(MENAFN) The Israeli military confirmed on Sunday that its forces killed three Palestinian police officers in the Gaza Strip, in what was described as another breach of the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
According to a military statement, one of those killed was Mansour Sami Shahtout, commander of the Gaza maritime police, who died in an airstrike in the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza on Friday. The statement added that two additional police officers were also killed in the same operation, with Israel claiming they “posed a threat” to its forces.
Gaza’s Interior Ministry condemned the incident and mourned the officers, stating that their deaths “reflect Israel’s insistence on spreading chaos in Gaza.” The ministry also urged international actors and ceasefire guarantors to intervene and pressure Israel to stop targeting police personnel.
Since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10, 2025, Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that at least 1,038 people have been killed and 3,329 injured in continued Israeli attacks.
The ceasefire followed two years of intense conflict that began in October 2023, which Gaza authorities say resulted in more than 73,000 deaths and over 173,000 injuries, alongside extensive destruction of civilian infrastructure. The United Nations has estimated that rebuilding the territory could cost around $70 billion.
