According to him, the Ukrainian candidate, an expert on children's rights, received support from 111 states.
Melnyk stressed that Ukraine won in a highly competitive race.
"Seventeen candidates from different regions of the world - recognized experts in the field of child rights protection - were vying for nine seats on the committee," the diplomat said.

Melnyk also stressed the special significance of electing the Ukrainian representative amid efforts "to bring back thousands of Ukrainian children whom Russia has kidnapped and forcibly deported, illegally transferring them from the occupied territories."
