Nawrocki's Decision On Order For Zelensky Weakens Poland's International Position, Says Minister

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, Polish Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański made this statement on Saturday during an address on TVN24

“I believe this decision is a very serious mistake on the part of the president. This decision weakens Poland's international standing. It will also have certain consequences and economic repercussions. This is a decision that Russia welcomes,” Domański noted.

According to him, Nawrocki's decision was made just a few days before the Ukraine Recovery Conference was to be held in Gdańsk.

The minister emphasized that it will be very difficult to explain to Poland's international partners around the world why the President of Ukraine was stripped of Poland's highest state award at a time when Ukraine continues to fight against Russian aggression.

“We must reduce tensions, seek mutual understanding, and refrain from making decisions that please our common enemy, which is undoubtedly Russia,” Domański emphasized.

He also noted that the Polish government is committed to strengthening the country's security and developing the national economy; however, in his view, the president's decision does not contribute to these goals.

Domański expressed his belief that Nawrocki's decision could negatively impact the conference on Ukraine's recovery.

“We are literally just a few days away from a major conference in Gdańsk [June 25–26]. This is probably the largest event of its kind that Poland has organized in recent years. Undoubtedly, President Nawrocki's decision will not contribute to the holding or success of this conference,” the minister emphasized.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on the social media platform X that the escalation of tensions between Poland and Ukraine plays into the enemy's hands.

“Many Poles are now wondering what our relations with Ukraine will look like. Some are doing so as people who have supported our neighbor since the start of the war and believe that this is the right thing to do. Others, no doubt, are doing so because they claim that aid is unnecessary and that all Ukrainians should return home. There is no doubt that things are heading in a very bad direction. Escalating tensions among allies only play into the enemy's hands,” Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote.

As reported by Ukrinform, Nawrocki decided to strip Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle on Friday evening Commenting on this decision on Saturday, he noted that Poles know what war is and what the Russian threat entails, while emphasizing that“Poles have their limit of patience, which has been crossed.”

Following Nawrocki's decision on June 20, Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the Order of the White Eagle had been sent to the President of Poland by mail The president assured that Ukraine remains open to all meaningful forms of cooperation with its partners.

In turn, the head of the Office of the President, Kyrylo Budanov; Ukraine's Ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar; Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha; former Presidents Leonid Kuchma Viktor Yushchenko, and Petro Poroshenko; and former Prime Minister Volodymyr Groisman all declined the high Polish honors.
