Trump Says Russia-Ukraine War Could Have Been Avoided with G8

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has argued that the war between Russia and Ukraine might have been prevented if Moscow had remained in the Group of Eight (G8).

In an interview with media, Trump said: “You probably wouldn't have the war with Russia and Ukraine if they did.”

He said the group “would have been much better” had it retained its original structure before Russia’s expulsion.

Trump blamed former President Barack Obama for supporting Russia’s removal, saying he did not want Russian President Vladimir Putin included.

Russia was expelled from the group in 2014 following its annexation of Crimea, transforming it into the G7.

Trump has repeatedly argued that the war would not have occurred under his presidency and has called for Russia’s reinstatement.

He made the remarks while attending the 52nd G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France.
