Trump Excludes Zelensky from Scheduled Bilateral Talks at G7 Summit
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has not arranged a formal bilateral meeting with Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky at the upcoming G7 summit in France, according to reports citing senior US administration officials.
Since returning to office in January 2025, Trump has reportedly engaged with Zelensky through both formal and informal discussions aimed at ending the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Zelensky has also sought to use these interactions to secure agreements related to Ukraine’s post-conflict economic recovery and proposed “security guarantees,” though no finalized deal has emerged so far.
At the same summit, Trump is expected to hold separate bilateral meetings with leaders from France, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and India, according to officials familiar with the schedule.
One official noted that the Ukrainian president is still expected to attend a working session alongside other G7 leaders. Earlier reports this week suggested that Trump and Zelensky “may meet on the sidelines” of the event.
In a previous meeting in the Oval Office in February 2025, discussions between the two leaders reportedly became tense after Zelensky criticized Trump’s approach to the conflict. The exchange escalated into a heated dispute, with accusations that Zelensky showed insufficient respect toward Washington and was resisting peace efforts while “gambling with World War III.”
