Macron Pushes for Expanded France-India Partnership in AI, Energy
(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday urged closer collaboration with India across key sectors including artificial intelligence, energy, healthcare, and space exploration during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Macron emphasized the importance of joint innovation, saying, “The question is not whether India innovates, but who will innovate with India,” while describing India as “a very great nation of innovation” that has become “indispensable” in global technological development.
He noted that both countries have agreed on a roadmap extending to 2030, which envisions cooperation in developing “safe, open, secure, trustworthy, responsible and ethical” artificial intelligence systems.
Macron also highlighted India’s recent space achievements, including the Chandrayaan-3 mission, and encouraged broader collaboration in areas such as clean energy, healthcare research, and advanced technologies.
He further pointed to ongoing space cooperation between the two nations, mentioning the jointly developed TRISHNA Earth-observation satellite, which is scheduled for launch from India next year.
The French president said both countries share a commitment to “cooperation, open research, respect for international law and respect for independent nations,” adding that strengthening ties between scientists, entrepreneurs, and students would be central to future cooperation.
Modi’s visit to France included participation in the “Bharat Innovates” event in Nice, which is being held abroad for the first time as part of the France-India Year of Innovation initiative.
