Tyra Banks Files Lawsuit Over Documentary on America's Next Top Model
(MENAFN) Tyra Banks has launched a defamation lawsuit against Netflix, alleging that her appearance in a documentary about controversies surrounding the reality series America's Next Top Model was edited in a misleading manner, according to reports.
The lawsuit claims that Banks' remarks in the three-part documentary Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model were taken out of context and rearranged to promote what she describes as a false and damaging portrayal of her role in events discussed in the program.
According to the filing, the documentary relied on “selective editing, deliberate omission, and surgical manipulation” to create the impression that Banks was aware of an alleged sexual assault involving a contestant during production and later failed to recall the incident.
“That narrative about Ms. Banks is a complete fabrication,” the lawsuit states.
Banks said she agreed to be interviewed because she wanted viewers to hear an honest assessment of the show's impact, including both its successes and its criticisms.
The complaint notes that only 16 minutes from a three-and-a-half-hour interview were ultimately included in the documentary.
According to reports, Banks argues that producers edited her responses in a way that made them appear connected to allegations raised by former contestant Shandi Sullivan, who claimed in the documentary that she was assaulted while filming the show's second season.
