Norway Awaits Verdict in High-Profile Trial of Crown Princess’s Son
(MENAFN) A court in Oslo is set to announce its ruling on Monday in the case of Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway’s crown princess, bringing a closely watched trial to a conclusion.
Høiby, 29, is due to appear via video link due to unspecified health issues, nearly three months after proceedings ended in a case involving 40 charges, including four counts of rape. He denies the most serious allegations but has acknowledged responsibility for several lesser offences related to drugs and traffic violations.
According to reports, prosecutors are seeking a sentence of seven years and seven months in prison, while his defence team argues for a significantly lighter term of around a year and a half.

The case has unfolded alongside personal difficulties within the royal household. Crown Princess Mette-Marit is seriously ill and was recently placed on a lung transplant list. An appeal to allow Høiby temporary release to be with her was also denied by a court. She has been seen visiting her son in prison with Crown Prince Haakon in recent weeks.
