Unexploded War Devices Kill Child, Injure Six in Southern Afghanistan
(MENAFN) A child was killed and six others were injured on Saturday after two unexploded ordnance devices detonated in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, according to local officials cited in reports.
The provincial director of information and culture, Mullah Abdul Bari Rashid, said the first incident occurred in the Sangin district when three children reportedly discovered a toy-like object. While playing with it, the device exploded, killing one child instantly and injuring two others.
A second blast took place later the same day in the same district, leaving four additional children wounded, though authorities did not provide further details about the circumstances.
Afghanistan remains heavily affected by landmines and unexploded remnants of decades of conflict, which continue to pose a serious threat to civilians, particularly children in rural and war-affected areas.
