Beijing Condemns US Blacklisting of Chinese Firms, Demands Reversal
(MENAFN) China on Saturday criticized a US decision to place several prominent Chinese companies on a Pentagon list identifying entities as "Chinese military companies," warning that it could respond with countermeasures if the move is not withdrawn.
According to reports, China's Commerce Ministry accused Washington of improperly broadening the scope of national security concerns and using government authority to target Chinese businesses, a step it said was damaging economic and trade relations between the two countries.
In a statement, a ministry spokesperson argued that the US action contradicted previous understandings reached by the leaders of the two nations and undermined the broader interests of bilateral cooperation.
"The US side has ignored the consensus reached during the meeting between the heads of state of the two countries in Beijing, disregarded the overall interests of bilateral economic and trade relations, continuously generalized the concept of national security, and abused state power to unjustifiably suppress Chinese enterprises," a spokesperson for the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry called on the United States to immediately rescind the measures and provide Chinese companies with fair and non-discriminatory treatment.
Chinese officials also warned that Beijing would take necessary steps to protect the legitimate rights and interests of its firms if Washington maintains the restrictions.
