Iran Announces Schedule for Funeral, Burial of Ali Khamenei

(MENAFN) Iranian authorities have outlined plans for a series of funeral events honoring the country's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with ceremonies set to take place between July 4 and July 9, according to reports carried by state media.

The commemorations will begin with a public farewell program in Tehran on July 4 and 5. Additional funeral ceremonies are scheduled in the capital on July 6 before proceedings move to the city of Qom on July 7.

The final stage of the observances will take place in Mashhad, where Khamenei is set to be laid to rest at the Imam Reza Shrine. Reports said the burial is scheduled for July 9 following funeral ceremonies in the city.

Khamenei was killed during US-Israeli strikes launched against Iran on Feb. 28. The attacks also resulted in the deaths of a number of senior military figures and government officials, according to reports.

A ceasefire mediated by Pakistan came into effect on April 8, bringing a halt to the fighting, while diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a broader agreement have continued in the months since.
