US Forces Disable Third Tanker Amid Iran Blockade
(MENAFN) US troops incapacitated an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday after the vessel allegedly breached the ongoing blockade against Iran by "attempting to transport Iranian oil," according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
This episode represented the third commercial vessel disabled by American forces within the same week, CENTCOM noted on the US social media platform X.
According to CENTCOM, US forces “acted against Guinea-Bissau flagged M/T Jalveer as it attempted to transport oil from Iran through the Gulf of Oman. A US aircraft fired two Hellfire missiles into the ship’s engine room after the crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from US forces.”
Earlier in the week, US aircraft disabled two other tankers — the Palau-flagged M/T Marivex and M/T Settebello — on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
The Marivex was targeted after trying to bypass the blockade by heading toward an Iranian port, while the Settebello was disabled for "attempting to transport Iranian oil," CENTCOM explained.
“CENTCOM forces have disabled nine non-compliant vessels, redirected 135 ships that complied, and allowed 42 vessels supporting humanitarian aid to pass since initiating the blockade on April 13.”
Meanwhile, India reported on Thursday that the latest incident involving the M/T Jalveer occurred off Oman. The vessel carried 20 Indian crew members, all of whom were confirmed safe.
