UN Security Council Warns of Escalation in Middle East as US Blames Iran
(MENAFN) Several members of the UN Security Council have warned that the Middle East is moving closer to a broader regional conflict, while the United States has accused Iran of contributing to instability across multiple ongoing crises.
According to reports, Russia and China rejected what they described as “one-sided” pressure directed at Tehran during the session.
Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said, “the situation in the Middle East is fragile and increasingly volatile,” adding that “unresolved disputes have become protracted conflicts, and cycles of violence are becoming normalized.”
He called for an immediate halt to hostilities and urged the normalization of conditions in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a critical passage for both regional and global trade.
Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia warned that “the dreams of the advent of lasting peace in the Middle East seem more elusive than ever,” accusing external actors and their regional partners of trying to reshape the region’s political order.
