Iraq, Syria Move to Deepen Coordination on Security, Economic Challenges
(MENAFN) Iraq and Syria are working to expand cooperation in the areas of security and economic affairs as both countries navigate increasing regional instability, according to an official statement issued Wednesday by the office of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Alzaidi.
The statement said Alzaidi conveyed a message to Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa through Hamid Rashid al-Shatri, head of Iraq’s National Intelligence Service.
According to reports, the message focused on strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing coordination between Baghdad and Damascus to address the security and economic difficulties affecting the region while advancing shared interests.
In response, Sharaa expressed appreciation to Alzaidi and the Iraqi government and reiterated Syria’s readiness to cooperate closely with Iraq in confronting mutual challenges stemming from recent regional developments.
