Gas Pipeline Explosions in Southern Russia Trigger Large Evacuation

(MENAFN) At least three explosions have occurred at a gas pipeline in Russia’s Dagestan region, sparking a major fire and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of residents, according to reports.

The incident took place in an industrial area of the town of Kyzylyurt, where flames reportedly reached up to 15 meters high after the pipeline ruptured. Local authorities said initial assessments indicated no casualties, according to reports.

Emergency services shut off the gas supply shortly after the blasts, noting that remaining gas in the damaged section continued to fuel the fire. Authorities said the affected pipeline segment has been taken out of operation.

Residents from nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, with reports indicating that more than a hundred people were moved from the immediate area.

Preliminary findings suggest the explosions may have been caused by depressurization of the pipeline, though investigations are ongoing, according to reports.
