GCC Chief Urges Dialogue Amid Iran–US Tensions
(MENAFN) The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has stressed that security across the Gulf region is “indivisible,” urging renewed diplomatic engagement as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate, according to reports.
GCC Secretary General Jassim Al-Budaiwi said Iran is “violating international and humanitarian law with its attacks on the Gulf states,” speaking during a ministerial meeting held in Manama.
He also warned that any disruption to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz would not only affect Gulf countries but also have wider consequences for the global economy.
“We must return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict,” he added.
Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al-Zayani described the Iranian strikes as a “clear violation of international law,” reinforcing calls from member states for de-escalation through political channels.
In a concluding statement, GCC members collectively condemned Iranian drone and ballistic missile attacks reportedly targeting Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, describing them as “a blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter and the sovereignty of the targeted states.”
