Pakistan Urges Swift Release of Seafarers Held Hostage Off Somali Coast
(MENAFN) Pakistan has called for the urgent release of its nationals being held hostage off the coast of Somalia, following diplomatic talks with Somali authorities.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar raised the issue during a telephone conversation with Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali, expressing what he described as serious concern over the situation.
According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, Dar emphasized the need to ensure the safety and well-being of the captives, as well as their prompt and secure return home.
In response, Ali reportedly assured that Somalia is continuing its efforts to secure the release of the hostages at the earliest possible time.
Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination until the situation is resolved.
The incident involves 11 Pakistani seamen who were taken hostage aboard the MT Honour 25 after the vessel was seized off Somalia’s southeastern coast on April 21.
