Two Senior Iranian Military Figures Reportedly Killed in Israeli Strikes
(MENAFN) Two high-ranking members of Iran’s military were killed during Israeli strikes on Monday, according to Iranian state media reports.
State broadcaster IRIB said the individuals, identified as Bahman Hosseini and Alireza Abiri, were killed while carrying out what was described as a mission to “defend the country’s skies.” Funeral arrangements for both personnel are expected to take place later on Tuesday.
The reported deaths come amid a rapid escalation in regional tensions involving Israel, Iran, and Lebanon. Clashes intensified after Israeli airstrikes targeted Beirut despite an existing ceasefire arrangement, prompting retaliatory missile fire from Iran toward northern Israel. Israel subsequently carried out multiple rounds of airstrikes in response.
According to reports, the exchange of attacks continued into Monday, although Iran’s military later stated it had halted its operations against Israel while warning of a “crushing” response if Israeli strikes on Lebanon continued.
The wider region has remained tense following earlier joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which triggered further retaliation and increased hostilities involving multiple actors across the region. A temporary ceasefire was later established, but subsequent developments and disputes over its implementation have contributed to renewed instability.
