Trump Claims US Nears ‘Total Victory’ Over Iran Imminent
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States is on track to declare “total victory” over Iran within the next two weeks, speaking just hours after Iran and Israel agreed to pause their most recent escalation in violence since a ceasefire was first established in April.
“We've been a very tough team, and I think we are winning that battle, but you're really going to win it over the next two weeks when we declare total victory,” Trump said during a telerally for Sen. Lindsey Graham, a close Republican ally. “It'll be a total victory. It'll happen very soon, and oil prices will come tumbling down.”
According to reports, the remarks came as Iran announced that it was ending its strikes on Israel, while simultaneously warning that it would deliver a “crushing” response if Israeli military operations in Lebanon continue. Iranian military officials also said Israel and its allies “should have learned” lessons from Tehran’s recent actions.
Tensions across the region escalated sharply on Sunday after Israeli forces struck the Lebanese capital Beirut despite an ongoing ceasefire. According to reports, Iran responded by launching missiles toward northern Israel, which then triggered a series of Israeli airstrikes against targets in Iran.
