US Disables Oil Tanker in Gulf of Oman Over Alleged Iran Violation

(MENAFN) US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces disabled an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Monday after it allegedly attempted to violate a blockade by heading toward an Iranian port.

According to reports, CENTCOM stated that the Palau-flagged tanker M/T Marivex was moving through international waters in the Gulf of Oman when it was identified as sailing toward Iran. The vessel was later targeted after its crew reportedly failed to comply with instructions from US forces.

“An F/A-18 Super Hornet from USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) fired a precision munition into the ship's engineering and steering spaces after the crew failed to comply with directions from U.S. forces,” the statement said, adding that the tanker was “no longer” continuing its course toward Iran.

CENTCOM said the blockade of maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports had been in effect since April 13.

It also claimed that US forces have disabled several commercial vessels and redirected many others during the ongoing period of heightened tensions and ceasefire conditions with Iran.
