Russia Casts Doubt on Ukraine Peace Talks Over Western Arms Support

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has cast doubt on the viability of peace negotiations over Ukraine, pointing to a new agreement involving Britain, France, and Germany to bolster military support for Kyiv.

According to reports, Lavrov made the remarks on Monday following discussions with Bangladeshi Foreign Affairs Adviser Khalilur Rahman. He said the agreement—signed alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy—includes provisions for strengthening Ukraine’s defense production and supplying longer-range weapons capable of reaching targets deep inside Russian territory.

“I do not know how it is possible to talk about any negotiations in this context,” Lavrov said.

He also expressed concern over recent comments by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, suggesting that Washington’s stance on the conflict limits its ability to act as a neutral mediator.

Lavrov argued that this undermines diplomatic efforts.

Additionally, he claimed that the United States has shown limited interest in following through on understandings previously reached between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump during talks held in Anchorage, Alaska, nearly a year ago.
