Saudi Arabia Denies Base Attack, Says Sirens Triggered by Missile Alert
(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia has rejected reports claiming that Prince Sultan Air Base was targeted in an attack, clarifying that early morning sirens were triggered as a precautionary safety measure.
According to reports, the Saudi Ministry of Defense stated that information circulating about an attack on the base is incorrect. The ministry explained that the alert in Al-Kharj Governorate, southeast of Riyadh, was activated after a ballistic missile was launched from Yemen and subsequently disappeared near the border area.
Officials said the warning system was activated purely as a preventive step to ensure public safety while the situation was being assessed.
“Reports circulating about an attack on Prince Sultan Air Base are untrue,” the ministry said.
It added that the sirens were part of precautionary procedures following the missile launch, and confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The statement followed earlier announcements from the Civil Defense, which confirmed the activation of an early warning system in Al-Kharj to alert residents of a potential threat before later declaring that the situation had passed without incident.
