Trump Approval Stays Near Lows As Americans Fear Rising Fuel Prices: Reuters Poll

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) President Donald Trump's approval rating remains near the lowest level of his current presidency as concerns over the economic impact of the Iran conflict continue to weigh on American voters, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. Only 35% of respondents approved of Trump's performance, while a majority expressed concern about rising fuel prices and the cost of living.

The survey found that nearly six in ten Americans expect gasoline prices to increase over the next year, reflecting fears that instability in the Middle East could further disrupt global energy markets. Only 22% approved of the administration's handling of living costs, while 70% said they were dissatisfied with its performance on the issue.

Public support for the U.S. military campaign against Iran also remains limited. While some Americans backed the strikes, only a quarter of respondents said the operation was worth the economic and political costs. The poll suggests economic concerns are increasingly overshadowing national security arguments ahead of the November midterm elections.

The findings come as Iran and Israel announced they had halted direct attacks on each other following an appeal from Trump, easing fears of a broader regional conflict. Oil prices retreated after both sides signaled a pause in hostilities, although analysts cautioned that the truce remains fragile.

Despite the pause, tensions remain high. Iranian officials have warned they could resume military action if Israel continues strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, while Israeli officials say they remain prepared to respond to any new threats.

The latest confrontation marked the most serious direct exchange between Iran and Israel since the April ceasefire and renewed concerns about the security of key energy routes in the Middle East. Market analysts say any return to hostilities could quickly push oil prices higher and intensify inflationary pressures in major economies.

The Reuters/Ipsos survey was conducted online among 4,531 American adults and had a margin of error of approximately two percentage points. The poll also showed Democrats holding a slight lead over Republicans in a hypothetical congressional vote, underscoring the political challenges facing Trump as economic concerns remain at the forefront of voter sentiment.
