EU Targets Iranian Officials, IRGC Unit with New Sanctions
(MENAFN) The European Union on Monday introduced new sanctions against two individuals and one Iranian entity in connection with actions linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to reports, the measures were adopted under an expanded sanctions framework aimed at those considered responsible for policies and activities that threaten freedom of navigation in the Middle East.
Among those sanctioned are Mohammad Akbarzadeh, the spokesperson for the naval branch of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the IRGC’s Hormozgan Provincial Command. The bloc also added Hamid Hosseini, a representative of Iran’s Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters’ Union, to the sanctions list.
According to the announcement, all listed individuals and entities will face an asset freeze, preventing access to funds and economic resources within the EU, whether provided directly or indirectly.
The measures also include a ban on travel to EU member states for the individuals named under the sanctions regime.
