Two Crew Members Get Killed in Private Jet Crash in Dominican Republic
(MENAFN) The pilot and co-pilot aboard a private aircraft died on Sunday after the jet crashed while attempting an emergency landing at La Romana International Airport in the Dominican Republic.
The US-registered Gulfstream G200 was heading to Austin, Texas when it reported severe mechanical issues while flying roughly 16 nautical miles southwest of La Romana and declared an emergency.
The aircraft turned back toward the airport in an attempt to land safely, but it went down upon touchdown and erupted into flames in a large fireball.
Preliminary information indicates that only the two crew members were on board at the time of the crash.
Authorities, including the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) and the Aviation Accident Investigation Commission (CIAA), have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
