Iran’s IRGC Attacks Kurdish Opposition Headquarters in Northern Iraq
(MENAFN) Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said early Monday that it carried out strikes on the headquarters of Kurdish opposition groups in northern Iraq, specifically in the Sulaymaniyah province, as tensions in the region continue to rise.
According to Iranian news agency, the IRGC stated via social media that what it described as “terrorist group” facilities in Sulaymaniyah were targeted in the operation. However, the statement did not provide details on the weapons used, the specific groups involved, or any information regarding casualties or damage.
The Kurdish region of northern Iraq is known to host several Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, which Tehran has long accused of launching cross-border attacks and fueling instability inside Iran.
The strike came shortly after Iran launched multiple missile barrages toward northern Israel, following an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs. Israel said that strike targeted a Hezbollah command and planning center.
That Beirut attack reportedly killed two people and injured 11 others, according to preliminary figures cited in reports.
