Iraq, Syria Restrict Airspace After Escalation in Iran–Israel Tensions

Iraqi authorities ordered the closure of the country’s airspace for 72 hours after the reported missile attack, an Iraqi news agency stated. The move was described as a precautionary measure in response to the rapidly developing security situation in the region.
In a separate decision, Syria’s Civil Aviation Authority announced the temporary shutdown of southern air corridors and the suspension of operations at Damascus International Airport, citing “recent developments” in the regional conflict environment.
The Syrian restrictions are set to last 12 hours, beginning at 11:00 p.m. local time on Sunday and continuing until 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Authorities said the decision followed ongoing risk assessments conducted by aviation and transport officials as part of their safety monitoring procedures.
The closure also means a temporary halt to airport operations during the same period, as officials continue to evaluate the impact of escalating regional tensions on civilian air traffic and aviation safety.
