Christian Eriksen Falls Ill During Denmark Match, Play Halted

(MENAFN) Danish footballer Christian Eriksen collapsed during an international match between Denmark and Ukraine on Sunday, leading to an immediate medical response and the suspension of play, according to reports.

The Danish Football Association confirmed that Eriksen was conscious following the incident and was undergoing further medical evaluation. Officials did not provide additional details about his condition or the cause of the collapse.

The 34-year-old midfielder went down suddenly on the pitch, prompting teammates, opponents, and medical staff to rush to his aid before the match was halted.

The incident has drawn renewed concern given Eriksen’s previous medical emergency in 2021, when he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening match at the UEFA European Championship. He was resuscitated on the field before being taken to hospital for treatment and later fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.

Following his recovery, Eriksen made a successful return to professional football and has continued to represent both club and country, remaining one of Denmark’s most prominent players.

Authorities and team officials are continuing to monitor his condition, according to reports.
