Kuwait, Bahrain Under Attack as Missiles, Drones Intercepted
(MENAFN) Kuwait and Bahrain activated emergency defense protocols Saturday as hostile missiles and drones penetrated the Persian Gulf region, sending civilians scrambling for shelter and triggering air defense systems across two key U.S. military partner states.
The Kuwaiti army announced on X that its General Staff had confirmed that "any explosions that may be heard are the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile targets," as its forces worked to neutralize what officials described as active aerial threats.
"The public is urged to adhere to safety and security instructions issued by the relevant authorities," the military said.
Simultaneously, Bahrain's Interior Ministry took to X to issue an urgent public alert, confirming that warning sirens had been activated across the island nation, home to the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet.
"The siren has been sounded," the ministry announced, adding that "citizens and residents are urged to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place."
Saturday's incidents mark a dangerous new flashpoint in a regional security crisis that has been steadily deteriorating since late February, when U.S. and Israeli forces launched coordinated airstrikes against Iran — igniting a cycle of retaliatory strikes that has progressively destabilized the broader Middle East.
