Iran's Araghchi Rebukes Lebanese President

(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sharply rebuked Lebanese President Joseph Aoun following the latter’s statements regarding Tehran’s involvement in Lebanese affairs.

In a message published on the social media platform X, Araghchi argued that Aoun’s observations conveyed the impression that Iran, rather than another party, was accountable for Lebanon’s ongoing difficulties.

“Based on Mr. Aoun’s comments, one would think it’s Iran that has occupied 1/5 of Lebanon, displaced 1/4 of Lebanese and bombing his country on daily basis,” he wrote.

The Iranian diplomat additionally dismissed suggestions that Lebanon served as a negotiating tool for Tehran in diplomatic discussions.

“Had Lebanon been bargaining chip for Iran, we’d have a deal long ago,” he said.

Araghchi concluded his statement by calling on the Lebanese head of state to concentrate on what he characterized as Beirut's “real foe.”

His remarks were issued in reaction to comments made by Aoun during an interview with CNN, where the Lebanese president addressed Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The exchange underscores widening public disagreements between Beirut and Tehran concerning regional developments and Lebanon’s stance amid continuing tensions across the Middle East.
