Hungary, Ukraine Sign Historic Minority Rights Agreement
(MENAFN) Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced that Hungary and Ukraine have reached what he described as a “historic” agreement aimed at expanding the linguistic, educational, and cultural rights of ethnic Hungarians living in Ukraine’s Transcarpathia region, according to reports.
In a video message shared on social media, he said the deal came after weeks of negotiations between Hungarian and Ukrainian experts, with input from organizations representing the Hungarian minority in the region.
Magyar also noted earlier that technical-level talks on minority rights had been making steady progress and indicated he is prepared to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the coming days.
Under the agreement, Ukraine has reportedly committed to restoring parts of the minority school system and broadening the use of the Hungarian language in education. This would include its application in school administration, graduation examinations, and university entrance processes, according to the statement.
