Bahrain Detains Fifteen Over Alleged Links to Iran’s IRGC
(MENAFN) Bahrain announced on Wednesday that it has arrested 15 individuals on suspicion of ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), saying the move was aimed at protecting national security.
According to a state-run Bahrain news agency, citing the Interior Ministry, the arrests followed intelligence investigations and earlier cases involving alleged Iranian-linked operatives in the country.
“They are identified as field operatives who were carrying out incitement instructions by attempting to influence citizens, particularly youth and adolescents, with the aim of pushing them into engaging in criminal acts,” the ministry said.
Authorities said legal procedures are underway while investigations continue into additional suspects.
The announcement came after Bahrain’s defense forces reported intercepting and destroying Iranian missiles and drones that were allegedly targeting civilian areas in the kingdom.
The broader region has seen heightened tensions since late February, following military strikes involving the US and Israel against Iran, which reportedly resulted in thousands of deaths, including senior Iranian officials. Iran later responded with attacks on Israel and Gulf states hosting US forces, while also closing the Strait of Hormuz, a major global shipping route.
