Maldives Denounce Israeli Storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque
(MENAFN) The Maldives on Wednesday strongly condemned what it described as the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli settlers, carried out under the protection of Israeli forces.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said, “The Government of the Republic of Maldives strongly condemns the continued incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli extremist settlers and the raising of the Israeli flag within its compound, under the protection of Israeli Occupation forces.”
It added that such actions, along with restrictions on worshippers’ access, amount to “a blatant violation of international law” and a deliberate attempt to undermine the religious and historical status of the site.
The ministry also called on the international community to take urgent and decisive steps to hold Israel accountable for what it described as ongoing “gross human rights violations” and disregard for the established status quo at one of Islam’s holiest locations.
It further reiterated the Maldives’ support for the Palestinian cause and urged stronger global measures to protect Islamic holy sites and uphold the rights of Palestinians.
