US Nears Approval of New $400M Military Aid Package for Ukraine

(MENAFN) The United States is close to finalizing a $400 million military assistance package for Ukraine, with an official announcement expected in the near future, according to remarks made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Speaking before a Senate committee, Rubio said, “That's going through the interagency process right now,” adding that he anticipates “news on that pretty soon.”

The funding falls under the 2026 Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which allows the Pentagon to purchase weapons and ammunition directly from US defense contractors rather than transferring existing stockpiles.

Although Congress approved the broader aid allocation in December, the release of the funds has experienced delays.

According to reports, Rubio reaffirmed that US support for Ukraine remains “unimpeded” despite competing defense demands linked to the ongoing Iran conflict.

At the same time, some lawmakers and media reports have raised concerns that US military stockpiles of certain munitions may be under strain due to sustained operational commitments related to the Iran situation.

The broader defense legislation, valued at approximately $900 billion for fiscal year 2026, includes $400 million earmarked for Ukraine in 2026, along with an additional $400 million planned for 2027 under the same assistance initiative.
