Trump Voices Frustration Over Netanyahu’s Approach Toward Lebanon

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump said he was “perturbed” by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and what he described as a pattern of ongoing conflict with Lebanon.

Speaking during an interview released Wednesday, Trump addressed reports of a tense phone conversation with Netanyahu earlier in the week. He said he urged the Israeli leader to bring an end to the repeated confrontations, recalling that he told him, "at some point ... Bibi we gotta stop this."

Trump explained that his concern stemmed from what he viewed as Netanyahu’s tendency toward continued military engagement with Lebanon. “I was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon,” he said, while emphasizing that the two leaders continue to maintain a strong working relationship.

“We’ve worked very well together. I like Bibi (Netanyahu) a lot. And I work very well with him. I'm a wartime president, he's a wartime prime minister, very important part of the world,” he said.

Despite expressing frustration over the situation, Trump highlighted the close cooperation that has existed between them throughout their time in office.

Discussing Iran’s nuclear activities, Trump also argued that his policies had played a crucial role in Israel’s security. “Now that pertains Israel, because they probably would have been the first one to get hit, there would be no Israel … If there wasn't me, there would be no Israel right now,” he said.

His remarks came amid continued regional tensions and ongoing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and security developments involving Israel and Lebanon.
