Kuwait Airport Hit by Drone Strike, Flights Suspended After Reported Iranian Attack
(MENAFN) According to reports, Kuwait International Airport was struck by drones on Wednesday, resulting in injuries and what authorities described as significant damage to the main passenger terminal.
A statement from Kuwait’s Defense Ministry said “hostile” drones hit Terminal 1 of the airport, causing structural damage and injuring several people who were later treated medically.
Defense Ministry spokesperson Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi said Kuwaiti forces are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with other agencies and remain on high alert to respond to further developments.
Following the incident, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation activated an emergency response plan, and authorities suspended and diverted flights “until further notice,” according to reports.
The disruption comes amid heightened regional tensions. According to reports, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said earlier that it had launched attacks targeting US-linked bases in Kuwait in response to an American strike on a facility on Qeshm Island in southern Iran.
Officials have not independently confirmed the full extent of the damage, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
