Jordan’s Pharmaceutical Exports Record Strong Growth in Early 2026
(MENAFN) Jordan’s pharmaceutical sector posted notable export growth during the first quarter of 2026, with overseas sales rising by 17.6 percent compared with the same period last year.
According to industry figures, pharmaceutical exports reached JD147 million during the first three months of the year, up from JD125 million recorded in the first quarter of 2025.
Representatives of the sector attributed the increase to continued efforts to diversify export destinations, strengthen the industry's international presence and support the expansion of Jordanian pharmaceutical products into new markets.
Fadi Atrash, representative of the Therapeutic Industries and Medical Supplies Sector at the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), said the pharmaceutical industry ranked as the second-fastest growing industrial export sector during the period, surpassed only by mining-related industries.
He noted that the sector's progress aligns with the goals of Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision, which seeks to raise pharmaceutical exports to approximately JD2.1 billion by 2033.
Atrash said growing confidence in Jordanian-made medicines has played a major role in driving export performance. He pointed to the industry's reputation in regional and international markets, as well as the quality, reliability and competitiveness of locally produced pharmaceutical products.
He also highlighted Jordan’s accession to the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) through the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), describing the step as an important achievement that enhances global recognition of the country's regulatory system and supports access to additional international markets.
According to industry representatives, Jordanian pharmaceutical companies have successfully entered several new markets in recent years, benefiting from the sector's product diversity, manufacturing standards and competitive positioning.
Atrash also commended the efforts of the JFDA in helping manufacturers meet international requirements through the application of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), which has contributed to improved product quality and strengthened the industry's global competitiveness.
Jordan’s pharmaceutical sector currently exports products to 85 countries and is considered one of the nation’s most significant high-value manufacturing industries.
The industry includes approximately 30 production facilities across the Kingdom and provides around 10,000 direct jobs. Women account for roughly 35 percent of the sector’s workforce, reflecting its important role in employment and economic development.
