US Conducts Strikes on Iranian Radar, Drone Facilities

(MENAFN) According to reports, the United States carried out strikes over the weekend targeting Iranian radar installations and drone command systems, as confirmed by the US military on Sunday.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated in a post on X that it had carried out what it described as self-defense operations against Iranian infrastructure linked to drone operations in Goruk and on Qeshm Island.

"US Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted self-defense strikes on Iranian radar and command and control sites for drones in Goruk, Iran and Qeshm Island this weekend," the statement said.

The operation was carried out in response to the downing of a US MQ-1 drone, according to CENTCOM.

Meanwhile, tensions between Washington and Tehran remain elevated amid stalled diplomatic efforts. According to reports, Iran’s chief negotiator issued a warning on Sunday, arguing that the United States cannot be trusted and insisting that Tehran would refuse any agreement with Washington unless Iranian rights are fully guaranteed.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s comments came amid emerging reports that US President Donald Trump had forwarded a more stringent peace proposal to Iran, highlighting ongoing disagreements between the two sides.

Analysts suggest that any modifications to the proposed framework could further delay efforts to reach a formal agreement aimed at ending the wider Middle East conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, especially after weeks of tense negotiations marked by diplomatic friction and intermittent violence.

Earlier diplomatic discussions between Iran and the United States regarding Iran’s nuclear program were already underway in February, when, according to reports, US and Israeli strikes targeted key sites and significantly weakened parts of Iran’s senior military leadership.

Iranian officials have also stated that they are demanding the release of approximately $12 billion in frozen assets before engaging in meaningful nuclear negotiations. They have additionally rejected previous statements attributed to Trump regarding the destruction of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, calling them “baseless,” according to Iranian media reports.
