Iran Says No US Deal Without Guarantees on National Rights
(MENAFN) According to reports, Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated on Sunday that Tehran will not accept any agreement with the United States unless it fully guarantees what Iran defines as the rights of its people.
In a video broadcast on state television, Ghalibaf said: “We will not approve any agreement until we are certain that the rights of the Iranian people have been upheld,” according to reports.
He further emphasized deep mistrust in negotiations, adding that Iranian negotiators “neither trust the enemy’s words nor its promises.”
The remarks come as Iran and the United States continue exchanging proposals over a potential framework aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict that, according to reports, erupted on February 28 and has since escalated across the region.
Recent media reports, including The New York Times and Axios, stated that US President Donald Trump had sent a revised and more stringent proposal back to Tehran for consideration. However, the specifics of the updated framework have not been disclosed.
According to reports, Iran considers sanctions relief and access to frozen assets held in foreign banks as essential conditions in any potential agreement with Washington.
Tehran has also maintained control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of the conflict, viewing oversight of the waterway as a sovereign right due to its importance as a global energy transit route.
