Annika Surmeier is a senior lecturer at UCT's Graduate School of Business. Her research and teaching lie at the intersection of social innovation studies and global value chain research with a sustainability focus. Annika's research investigates how actors can drive social innovation in value chains and tackle societal concerns locally and in the global economy.

Previously, Annika worked as a researcher at Marburg University (Germany) and managed the "Social Impact Lab" in Stuttgart. She also was a research fellow at the Global Development Institute (University of Manchester) where she held an EU-funded Marie Curie Global Fellowship.
