Iran Reviews US Deal Proposal Without Sending Response
(MENAFN) Iran is continuing to examine the final draft of a potential agreement with the United States and has not yet delivered its response, according to reports citing Iran’s news agency and a source familiar with the matter.
The source said Tehran is aiming to secure “real, tangible” benefits from any agreement, adding that “the history of US non-compliance and historical distrust” has led Iranian officials to approach the issue “very strictly.”
Tensions across the Middle East have intensified since reported US and Israeli strikes on Iran in February, with Tehran responding through attacks targeting Israel and US-aligned interests in the Gulf region, alongside measures affecting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was reported to have taken effect on April 8 following mediation efforts led by Pakistan, though subsequent negotiations in Islamabad did not result in a durable settlement.
Diplomatic efforts have nonetheless continued.
Iran has also reportedly set conditions for a permanent end to the conflict, including a halt to hostilities across all fronts, among them Lebanon, where Israeli military operations have continued since early March.
US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he had urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to withdraw troops from Beirut, according to statements made publicly.
