Israeli Strikes Kill 8 in Lebanon, Including Dentist, Two Children
(MENAFN) Fresh Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon have killed at least eight people — among them a dentist and his two young children — despite an active ceasefire agreement, Lebanese media reported Tuesday.
The dentist, his son, and daughter perished when an Israeli drone targeted their vehicle as they traveled along the Nabatieh–Khardali road in southern Lebanon, state news agency NNA reported.
A second drone strike claimed the lives of two Syrian workers inside a plant nursery where they were employed in the town of Jebchit.
Two additional fatalities were recorded in separate drone attacks — one striking a motorcycle in Toul and another hitting a car in Ansar, according to NNA.
A further drone strike at the Harouf-Toul roundabout killed the driver of a targeted vehicle.
Israeli warplanes also launched an airstrike on a Lebanese Civil Defense center along the Masil road in Kfar Sir, completely destroying the facility. The center had been evacuated several days prior, NNA noted.
In a separate pre-dawn strike, Israeli aircraft hit the town of Mansouri in the Tyre district, coinciding with artillery shelling in the surrounding area. Attacks also struck a residential property in Tyre's al-Hosh neighborhood, leveling the house and damaging several adjacent homes. Two wounded individuals were pulled from the rubble and rushed to hospital.
Meanwhile, NNA reported that the death toll from Monday's strike on Jabal Amel Hospital in Tyre has climbed to four, with 50 others wounded. The attack inflicted widespread damage across hospital wards, the parking structure, and surrounding buildings.
The latest bloodshed comes just one day after US President Donald Trump declared Monday that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to cease hostilities following back-channel contacts through intermediaries. Trump said he had personally facilitated those contacts and received assurances that "all shooting will stop."
Despite those assurances, Israel has pressed ahead with strikes on Lebanon in defiance of the ceasefire that came into force on April 17 and was subsequently extended for 45 days following indirect US-mediated negotiations.
Lebanon's Health Ministry reports that more than 3,400 people have been killed in attacks since March 2.
