Typhoon Jangmi Moves Toward Kyushu After Passing Okinaw
(MENAFN) Typhoon Jangmi continued its northward path on Tuesday toward Japan’s southern main island of Kyushu after passing through Okinawa, where strong winds and severe weather conditions left four people injured, according to authorities.
The injuries, reported in Okinawa on Monday, occurred due to falls and other weather-related accidents as the storm moved across the region, as stated by reports citing local officials.
The typhoon also caused significant travel disruption, leading major airlines to cancel multiple flights operating out of Okinawa and Amami-Oshima Island in Kagoshima.
Additional cancellations are expected on Tuesday, particularly for routes connecting to Kyushu and the island of Shikoku.
As of 5 a.m. local time, Typhoon Jangmi—the sixth typhoon of the season—was positioned west of Amami-Oshima, moving north-northeast at a speed of roughly 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) per hour.
Meteorological authorities have warned of powerful winds and heavy rainfall, raising concerns over possible landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and river overflows across the Amami region and parts of western Japan through Wednesday.
