Belgium Urges Progress in Iran-US Talks to Secure Broader Regional Peace

(MENAFN) Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot on Monday said the ongoing dialogue between Iran and the United States presents a valuable chance to pursue a far-reaching peace settlement that could also contribute to stability in Lebanon.

According to statements shared after a telephone discussion with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Prevot emphasized the need to maintain momentum in diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Washington.

“I told Minister Araghchi that the talks with the US offer an opportunity that must be seized to reach a comprehensive peace agreement. Every effort must be made on both sides to reach swiftly a peace agreement, including for Lebanon, whose territorial integrity must be respected by Israel,” he wrote on US social media company X.

Prevot also called on Iran to end what he described as a “destabilizing” role across the region, particularly through its backing of proxy groups. He argued that both the Middle East and the international community have already endured significant consequences from the continuation of regional conflicts and tensions.
