Lebanon Says US Pledges Ceasefire in Beirut, Seeks Nationwide Truce

(MENAFN) According to reports, a senior Lebanese official has said that Lebanon received a commitment from the United States to help secure a ceasefire in Beirut, with discussions underway to potentially broaden the arrangement to cover the entire country.

The official said that efforts are being made to stabilize the situation in the capital first, before extending any agreement nationwide. He added that the proposal is still under development and subject to ongoing diplomatic coordination.

He stated: “We received a promise from the US side of a ceasefire in Beirut, which may possibly cover all of Lebanon.”

The official also noted that Lebanese political leaders, including President Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, have been in active communication with US counterparts in an effort to solidify and expand ceasefire arrangements involving Israel.

The discussions come amid continued diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and preventing further escalation across Lebanon, particularly in and around Beirut.
