Reports Claim US Personnel Injured After Missile Incident Near Kuwait Base

(MENAFN) A number of US personnel and contractors reportedly sustained minor injuries following a ballistic missile incident involving a Kuwaiti air base during a recent exchange of strikes in the region, according to reporting attributed to unnamed sources.

The incident is said to have occurred amid escalating limited military exchanges between US and Iranian forces. In parallel operations, US forces reported destroying several Iranian drones described as incoming threats near the Strait of Hormuz, while also striking a military facility near Bandar Abbas. Iranian forces, in turn, stated they had targeted a US military installation in response.

According to the same reporting, a Fateh-110 missile was intercepted by Kuwaiti air defenses, but debris from the interception allegedly impacted Ali Al Salem Air Base, causing minor injuries among US personnel stationed there.

“At least one MQ-9 Reaper drone was reportedly destroyed,” the report stated, with additional equipment also believed to have been damaged during the incident.

The exchange is part of a broader pattern of tit-for-tat military actions in the region, involving drone strikes, missile interceptions, and retaliatory attacks on military facilities.

Separate assessments cited in the report suggest that US MQ-9 Reaper drone losses have been significant in recent months, with a portion of the fleet reportedly destroyed or rendered inoperable during operations and strikes in contested areas.

Analysts cited in the reporting indicate that the reductions in operational drones have affected surveillance and strike capabilities, given the MQ-9’s role in long-endurance reconnaissance and precision targeting missions.

The MQ-9 Reaper fleet is reportedly facing additional logistical constraints, including production changes that may complicate rapid replacement of lost systems, according to industry sources referenced in the report.
