Philippines Building Collapse Death Toll Rises as Rescue Efforts Continue

(MENAFN) The number of fatalities from the collapse of a building under construction in Angeles City, located in the Luzon region of the Philippines, has increased to 17 after additional victims were recovered during ongoing search operations.

Rescue teams retrieved four more bodies overnight, bringing the updated death toll higher as recovery work continued, according to local officials.

Authorities indicated that approximately three individuals are still unaccounted for, while cautioning that the figures remain provisional as emergency crews continue clearing debris and searching the site.

Officials from the Bureau of Fire Protection in Central Luzon, along with the Angeles City government, noted earlier that the casualty numbers are not final due to the evolving nature of the operation.

The incident occurred on May 24 when a nine-story structure that was still under construction collapsed in Angeles City, triggering a large-scale emergency response involving firefighters, disaster response teams, and structural engineers.

Search and recovery efforts are ongoing as authorities continue assessing the stability of the site and working to account for all missing persons.
